Learn Oil Painting Techniques By Video

Oil Painting Colors

There is no doubt that the best way to learn oil painting techniques is by going to an Art school, where you have the assistance of a teacher or instructor.

But for some of us it is simply too difficult to find the time to do that. We either live too far away from a good Art school, or the courses are offered at certain times of the year, and if you missed your enrollment, you have to wait till the next cycle starts again.

And you could learn oil painting techniques with a book (or books). But learing to paint like that takes longer, and you need to be very disciplined to complete what you've started.

A video, on the other hand, can be - if not a substitute for an Art school - a suitable alternative for you. And if you're lucky enough to go to an Art school, a video workshop on how to pain with oils can be a good supplement to your painting education.

I have been looking for such a video course online, and I came across one that I can truly recommend.

Professional Russian Painter Alexei Antonov has developed a video course that teaches the secrets of classical oil painting techniques of the Masters in an easy-to-follow manner.

The course has been filmed in a painting studio, and it reproduces - as best as it can - the painting learning environment.

Basically, the only thing missing is the smell of oil paints... but if you watch it as you practice the oil painting techniques Alexei teaches you, you won't be missing a thing.

The video course teaches classical oil painting techniques as applied to still life painting from the beginning to the end, including:

* Composition;
* How to prime the canvas,
* How to Draw,
* Imprimatura,
* Umbra Underlayer,
* Dead Underlayer,
* Color Layers, and
* Texture (Finishing Layer).
* How to paint the smallest details like water drops,
* How to paint the texture of the lemon skin, and
* How to paint the tiniest details, and when to stop.

The Video Painting Workshop has close-ups in the video that present a clear view of flashing highlights on the paint when the brush touches the canvas.

You can see every hair of the brush, as well as the brush at work from angles that in a way that you would not be able to see in a live workshop.

It shows you how round-corner razor blades are made, and how to keep paints fresh from session to session.

If you are just "thinking about learning" how to paint, this video course may not be for you, as you may purchase it to join your growing collection of videos. This is because the video course is not cheap, but the quality of the stuff you can learn from there justifies the price tag... if you are serious about learning how to paint in oils, that is!

Apart from the fact that the techniques are taught by a professional painter whose walked the walk, the advantage of having this course on video is that you can learn to paint at your own pace, and even rewind any bit that you do not understand.

Of course, you do not get the benefit of asking questions, but the instructions on the video course are so clear, that I would be surpriced if there is anything you cannot understand without asking.

If you are seriously into painting, and want to learn the secrets of the masters, you should check out this painting video course.
